The Arts Department

       Art

  • Disciplines will be divided into 3 areas of interest: Design, Build, and Preserve, with an emphasis on religious art.  Students will be graded solely on artwork simply being submitted.  Starting in fourth grade students will learn cursive handwriting as part of their design unit as they will be required to take notes in every class, every day in cursive.  Studies show that writing in cursive activates the use of both sides of the brain, which is why this is the first class of the day and used throughout the day.

  • Towards the end of the year students will select their best work to be placed into their Art Portfolio.  Students will host two Art Gala's (at the end of the 2nd & 3rd trimester) where parents, friends, and staff will attend and purchase artwork.  In the 6th grade students will host an art auction at the end of the year.  90% of all artwork proceeds will go towards the Students Finance Portfolio, while 10% will be donated to their charity.  All students will also have the option to design the set and costumes for the annual Student Musical.  Students will also study a unit on Museum Curation.  Each class will have an appointed Museum Curator. In 8th grade students will create a display in the IPSNA Museum to showcase works of students for historic preservation.   8th grade students will also design their class t-shirt

  • Field study/Lectures will occur monthly and overnight field trips will take place every trimester.

       Music

  • Disciplines are divided into 3 areas: Instrumental, Vocal, and Performance.  Students will collaboratively show their chosen interest at the end of the year Musical which will count towards their final grade.  For students with noise sensitivity, a breakout session will be available in a sensory friendly space.  Students will also organize the mid-year Kindness Rap Battle.

  • Field study/Lectures will occur monthly and overnight field trips will take place every trimester.

*6th Grade at IPSNA is considered a transition year.  Students will meet with the Student Transition Counselor during school hours.
